Question 14 marks

Describe the structure of a plant cell and name three organelles not found in animal cells.

Acceptable Answer

Plant cells have: cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes. Three additional organelles: cell wall (cellulose, provides support), chloroplasts (contain chlorophyll for photosynthesis), permanent vacuole (filled with cell sap, maintains turgor).

Question 22 marks

Explain why metals are good conductors of electricity.

Acceptable Answer

Metals have delocalised (free) electrons in their structure. When a voltage is applied, these electrons can move through the metal lattice, carrying electric charge and forming a current.

Question 33 marks

A ball is dropped from a height of 20m. Calculate the speed at which it hits the ground. (g = 10 m/s²)

Acceptable Answer

v² = u² + 2as = 0 + 2 × 10 × 20 = 400. v = √400 = 20 m/s
